About sayit

Decisions get made about young people. Often without them.

sayit is an engagement agency for young people’s voice. We turn a real decision into something you can take part in, in a few minutes, on your phone. We turn what you said into evidence the organisation can act on. Then we hold them to coming back and saying what happened.

01

The gap

Young people are missing from the answers

Look at who replies to a consultation on buses, parks, pools or public space, then look at who will live with the result longest. The invitation is usually a meeting in a hall on a weeknight, a long paper, and a survey asking how satisfied you are — which reaches people with a free evening and a taste for reading policy. It is a format problem before it is anything else.

Organisations know it, and don't know what to do about it

The people who run these asks can see the age profile of their own respondents. The standard answer is a youth survey beside the main one, and it inherits the same problems: satisfaction questions rather than real choices, competing for attention with everything else on a phone, and results that arrive after the options have been drawn. None of that is a failure of effort.

Reporting back is the part that gets skipped

Asking people and never telling them what happened is just taking, with better graphic design. A young person who answers once and hears nothing has learned exactly what their answer was worth — and every ask after that one inherits it.

A real council survey on a street redesign. 302 people answered. 74 in every 100 were 55 or over, and not one was aged 18 to 24. Teenagers use that street every afternoon.

One consultation, not a study of them. It is here because that shape is what the format produces — and because a page about citing your numbers doesn’t get to make a claim its own rules would refuse.

What sayit is, and why us

An agency that runs the engagement.

A survey asks what you think. sayit asks what you’d do with a real budget, a real site and a real deadline — the same hard choice the organisation has to make. We design that, run it, reach the people and report it. The organisation decides.

Not a survey tool, and not a research panel: nothing here signs young people up to be asked again and again.

Everyone agrees with this. We built it in.

Start with the decision
Every agency says it. Here a campaign on a decision that has already been made doesn't open — the check runs before you can publish, not in a kickoff workshop.
Close the loop
Every agency says it. Here you cannot publish a campaign without naming the date you will report back by, and going past that date shows in public.
Don't overclaim
Every research house says it. Here a finding that cites no measures is not treated as a finding, and a small group is never rounded up into a population.
Built for one audience
Nothing here is an adult format adapted down. It was made for 15 to 29, so nothing in it is a compromise with a second audience — which is the one thing a general supplier cannot simply say back to you.

What we believe

What we stand for →

Real influence, not the appearance of it

If nothing can change, we don't ask. Every campaign says what's open, what's fixed, who decides and when — before the first question.

Short isn't shallow

A budget that doesn't stretch teaches more in four minutes than a satisfaction scale does in forty. Depth comes from the question, not the duration.

Evidence a decision can actually use

Every finding carries its numbers. We say what a campaign can and can't claim, and we never let a small group stand for everyone.

The loop closes, or it wasn't participation

What changed, what didn't, and why — published back to everyone who answered, by a date the organisation names at the start.

There are more, and they bind every organisation running a campaign through us as much as they bind us. Read the whole set.

Where we’re up to

sayit is early, and it is Australian. The 16 campaigns on this site are worked examples. We built them to show what a real one looks like from start to finish. Every organisation, street and suburb in them is invented, and nothing you answer reaches a council.

What is real is everything underneath: reading a plan, designing a campaign, running the reach, answering on a phone, the evidence, and the outcome published back. We’re preparing our first round of launch campaigns now, with real organisations and real decisions.
